My Lego Candy Machine
I made a lego candy machine. It has two options and a coin bank. A penny, a 5 pence coin, or anything that size will fit. Both options hold tic tacs. You put a coin in on the top and it releases a bar. You can slide another bar to the side you want, and an array of tic tacs will fall out. I give all credit to ElectryDragonite for his wonderful tutorial. The tutorial isn’t too hard, you just need a lot of bricks.
Pottermore
If you read Harry Potter, you should check out this site. You get to potter around Diagon Alley, get sorted at Hogwarts and practice spells and potions. I am in Ravenclaw and I have a Barn Owl and a Phoenix Feather wand. My username is BladeThorn14043. You also get to see “moments” from the books. So if you don’t have the books, you can see some scenes from the books and movies.
The London Eye
Today I went on the London Eye. I got the red car. I could see as far as Wembley Stadium. The carriages had screens to point out landmarks. I heard you can see Windsor Castle on a clear day, but that’s not true. The London Eye moves so slow, they don’t have to stop it to let people on. The whole ride takes 30 minutes. You can see a lot of London. The Eye is close to the Aquarium and the London Dungeon. There is also a park nearby. The 4D experience is fun and free with your ticket. I definitely recommend The London Eye.
Borough Market
Today I went to Borough Market in London. Bourough Market only sells food. I normally get a bhujia from an Indian place and then get two empanadas from Porteña (an Argentinean place) and maybe some fudge. The Market has some great desserts and cheeses around the center. To the right side we have meat and fish, and the south side has seating. The left side has more seating and some street food. At the north we have more meat. The stalls move around a lot, and some of the good places may be gone. Kappacasein (a famous grilled cheese place) is only around on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Check online just to be sure. Gujarati Rasoi has great Indian food. For other places that might intrest you, check the site: Borough Market
Conway’s Game of Life
Conway’s Game of Life is a game where you make an image, and then the image will mutate to a set of rules. The set up is this: You make a grid like a piece of graph paper. Each square is called a cell. A cell can be alive or dead. Any alive cell with less than 2 alive cells surrounding it dies. Any alive cell with 2 or 3 alive cells stays alive. Any alive cell with more than 3 alive cells surrounding it dies by overcrowding. Any dead cell surrounded by exactly 3 cells comes alive. Here is a Glider, a moving image:
There are pictures called Methuselahs go for a long time before making a stable pattern. Acorn goes for 5206 generations (a moment when the picture changes) before making a repitive pattern.
Here is Acorn:
Gosper’s Glider Gun (at top) makes gliders and shoots them far. Here is a link for a simulator.
Richmond Park
Today I went to Richmond Park.
I walked to the north section of the park, where I got lunch. DO NOT go to the Pembroke Lodge Cafe. They sell soup but they don’t have spoons. “Here’s a straw!” they said. Then I went to see the view of London. You can see St. Pauls and The Shard. Then I walked to Richmond bus station and got a bus home. I walked 4 miles in total! You should go to Richmond Park if you haven’t. And here’s a tip: always bring a camera!
My Favorite Youtube Channels
One of my favorite channels is musicalbasics. Lionel (I’ve talked about him before) makes music. He also sells some of his songs as sheet music. I also like Numberphile and Computerphile. Vi Hart is also worth a look if you like math. I love Sick Science (one of Steve Spangler’s youtube channels). ElectryDragonite makes cool LEGO creations (like candy machines that take money). Those are my favorite channels.
Random Facts and Ideas
Did you know..
- Marylebone station on the London Underground used to be called Grand Central.
- Hampstead station used to be called Heath Street.
- Warren Street used to be called Euston Road.
The difference between pseudo-random and random is this: Pseudo-random works like this: You take any random number and perform a sequence, (like taking the number, squaring it, take the middle, and repeat the process over and over.), and keep going until you hit a totally random number.
This binary code is hard to decrypt: 01100111 01100101 01101110 01101001 01110101 01110011 . And use that as your key for this Vigenere Cipher: hroidgn.
This is the new piano song I’m working on:
What’s Currently On My Mind
I’m making these short posts so you can see what’s on my mind.
I was working when my sister started to play some music that I hate (One Direction, Rihanna) and it started to make me think about modern music.I hate everything by Katy Perry, One Direction, Ellie Goulding, Carrie Underwood, and Rihanna.I like Billy Joel, Pharrell Williams, and Van Halen. I like older music better than contemporary music. Thank God we have people like Weird Al Yankovic to make funny songs. I don’t get how artists are so famous. People like Lionel Yuzzy should get more attention. Here is one of his videos:
Yes, he made all of those songs himself! Who do you think deserves more attention? Katy Perry or Lionel? Thinking about Lionel’s videos reminds me of Google’s new safety mode that is ridiculous, because it blocks some of Lionel’s videos. I have watched his videos lots of times and I see nothing that is inappropriate. Safety is ridiculous these days. In the US, some kid told me that I couldn’t ride my bike because I didn’t have a helmet on. He said it’s a law that you have to wear a helmet on a bike. What time of law is that?! When I played baseball, the pitcher has to wear this big pad in front of his chest. You don’t need that! You have ribs and a chest! In fact, I gave up trying to play organised sports. I think it’s a lot more fun to get some random kids and a ball and play. I like playing with city kids more than I like playing with suburb kids. Kids in London will play with you even if they have never seen you before. I basically go to the park everyday with ball, and stay for an hour.
My Trip To Scotland
I went to Scotland on the 7th of August. It was really fun! On the first day, I took a l o n g train ride from King’s Cross to Edinburgh Waverley. Then I took a cab to my hotel. Then I walked to the Grassmarket which was a square that had street performers (I came during the Fringe Festival, so it was a good time to come. The Fringe is where there are lots of shows.) . Then I saw the castle but didn’t go inside. I walked down the Royal Mile and then went to my hotel. The next day I took a bus tour and went a loop before getting off at Arthur’s Seat. Arthur’s Seat is this big mountain that I climbed.
Then it started to rain, so I went to the Edinburgh Dungeon. It was REALLY SCARY. Much scarier than the York one. There was this boat ride in the caves of Galloway in hunt for the cannibal Bean family. Thankfully I sat on the right in the front. Everyone knows that the front is the safest, and before the ride started, the woman told us that cannibals always attack on left. I think the girl behind me literally pooped her pants. Afterwards I went back to the hotel. On the next day I went on a tour bus. Not one that just did Edinburgh but one that went to The Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, and northern Scotland. It took three days. When I got back to Edinburgh I went to this Camera Obscura place and then the Museum of Scotland. Then I got my luggage and went back to King’s Cross.
